"Rush Hour" films to be adapted into weekly TV series
The culture clash will continue.
Director Brett Ratner is teaming up with the makers of "Cougar Town" for a new one-hour TV comedy series based on the "Rush Hour" films, according to Deadline.
The upcoming series is expected to follow a similar format to the films, which centered around a straight-laced Hong Kong cop (originally played by Jackie Chan) who teams up with an in-your-face black LAPD officer (originally portrayed by Chris Tucker).
Released in 1998, the first "Rush Hour" film became a surprise hit at the box office, taking in more than $244 million worldwide against a $33 million budget. Two sequels followed, and the franchise has earned a total of $849.7 million in theaters.
All three films in the "Rush Hour" franchise were directed by Ratner, who will serve as an executive producer on the new series.
"Cougar Town" executive producers Bill Lawrence and Blake McCormick have been brought on board as writers.
