Actor Peter MacNicol loses Emmy nomination for "Veep"

Peter MacNicol definitely won't be receiving an Emmy Award for his performance on "Veep" Season 5.

That's because the Academy of Television and Arts and Sciences is taking back their nomination for outstanding guest actor due to a rules flub.

In order to be nominated for a guest acting role, the performer must have been in less than 50 percent of a season's episodes. Unfortunately for MacNicol, though he was originally slated to appear in four episodes, he ended up appearing in five, per the Hollywood Reporter.

Instead, Peter Scolari, who played Tad Horvath, father of "Girls" protagonist Hannah, will take the nomination.

THR reports that this isn't the first time an actor has had his Emmy nomination rescinded; Dennis Miller lost his nomination in 1995 for the same reason, as did Henry Winkler in 2000.
