Harry Shearer will be back on "The Simpsons"

In May, Harry Shearer revealed that he would be parting ways with "The Simpsons." But fans will be happy to know that some of their favorite characters will be back on the small screen thanks to a new deal with Fox.

Shearer, who has voiced characters including Mr. Burns, Ned Flanders, and Seymour Skinner, surprised fans in May when he broke the news, explaining that he "wanted what we've always had: the freedom to do other work."

But Fox confirmed Tuesday that Shearer will indeed be back for seasons 27 and 28, revealing in a statement: "Fox is proud to confirm that each and every member of the iconic series' voice cast will be returning in the roles they've brought to life since the show's beginnings as a series of animated shorts nearly 30 years ago."

For his part, Shearer told CBS News, "I'm very pleased we were able to work things out, and I'm looking forward to donning yellow skin once more."

In May, Shearer, 71, had thanked fans for their support in the wake of the contract dispute, pointing out that he had no plans to retire, but was moving "on to new stuff."

Guess he'll keep some old stuff around, too.
