Avril Lavigne on Lyme disease: "I thought I was dying"
Avril Lavigne gets serious about her recent experience with Lyme disease in a new interview with People magazine, saying that at one point she thought she was dying.
Last December, Lavigne asked for prayers as she battled a "health issue," but at the time she didn't disclose why.
In the latest issue of People, Lavigne goes into detail about how she learned she had the disease. Lavigne says she hadn't felt like herself last fall, and it all came to a head during a visit to Vegas with some friends.
"I could barely eat, and when we went to the pool, I had to leave and go lie in bed," she said. "My friends asked, 'What's wrong?' I didn't know."
The 30-year-old singer, who felt very tired, soon learned she had Lyme disease, resulting with her being bed-ridden for about five months.
"I felt like I couldn't breathe, I couldn't talk and I couldn't move. I thought I was dying," she told People. "There were definitely times I couldn't shower for a full week because I could barely stand. It felt like having all your life sucked out of you."
Lavigne, who says she's about 80 percent better, thinks she was bit by a tick last spring.
Lavigne released her most recent studio album in 2013 and is readying her new single, "Fly," which will coincide with the 2015 Special Olympics.
