Caitlyn Jenner earns 1 million Twitter followers in 4 hours

Bruce Jenner may have earned a gold medal in the Olympic decathlon in 1976, but Caitlyn Jenner deserves a gold medal for tweeting.

Even she was surprised at how many people followed her on Twitter and sent out a thank you to all of her new followers.

The former athlete and reality star revealed her new identity Monday, posing on the cover of Vanity Fair magazine and tweeting from a brand new handle, @Caitlyn_Jenner. In just over four hours, the account reached one million followers, setting an official Guinness World Record.

The quick time took out the previous record-holder: President Barack Obama.

President Obama started his own Twitter account, @POTUS, May 18. He achieved the million mark in just under five hours (shattering the record before that of 23 hours 22 minutes held by Robert Downey, Jr.).

Jenner sent her first tweet as Caitlyn at 12:17 pm EST. The account hit 1 million followers four hours and three minutes later, at 4:20 pm.

Many stars took to the social media site to congratulate Jenner on her transition.
