George R.R. Martin might kill more of your favorite "Game of Thrones" characters

Anyone who has devoured George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" series or stared in shock/horror/disbelief at the developments on its TV adaptation "Game of Thrones" knows the author has no mercy when it comes to killing off beloved characters. And he apparently has no plans to stop.

At an event in London, Martin revealed he's at the point in his writing of the novels where he could conceivably raise the body count even higher.

According to Buzzfeed, when the author asked if there were any characters he couldn't kill because they are needed for the plot, he replied, "I have a large number of important characters who I switch between to tell the entirety of the story, and that limits who I can kill. Sometimes there's only one character who's my eye in a particular location, and if I kill that character everything going on in that particular subplot is going to be lost."

But, Martin added, that's now changing.

"The way my books are structured, everyone was together, then they all went their separate ways and the story deltas out like that. And now it's getting to the point where the story is beginning to delta back in," he explained. "The viewpoint characters are meeting up with each other and being in the same point at the same time...Which gives me a lot more flexibility for killing people."

Yikes.

Martin is currently working on "The Winds of Winter," the sixth in the planned seven books in the series. "Game of Thrones," meanwhile, finished airing its fourth season earlier this year and has been renewed for two more.
