2016 Tony Awards date changed, venue booked

The 2016 Tony Awards have a new date and location.

Originally scheduled for June 5, the annual gala will now be held on June 12.

The Tonys ceremony has also found a new home -- at the 2,900-seat Beacon Theatre in New York. For years, Broadway's awards gala has taken place at the 6,000-seat Radio City Music Hall, but that venue is unavailable as it will be home to the new "Rockettes New York Spectacular."

No host has been announced yet.

Next year marks the 70th anniversary of the Tony Awards, which were first held on April 6, 1947 at the Waldorf Astoria's Grand Ballroom.
