Robert Downey Jr.'s "The Judge" to open 2014 Toronto Film Festival

The court has made its ruling.

The new crime drama "The Judge" will open this year's Toronto International Film Festival.

The upcoming film from director David Dobkin had already been announced as an entry on the festival lineup earlier this week.

On Friday, cast member Robert Downey Jr. posted a message on Facebook announcing that the film had officially been chosen as the opening night selection.

"Such an honor to kick off this ten-day event for audiences who are true fans of cinema," Downey wrote.

The "Iron Man" star also posted a picture of himself and his wife, "The Judge" film producer Susan Downey, holding up an image of the Canadian flag in honor of the announcement:

In addition to Downey, "The Judge" also stars Robert Duvall, Vera Farmiga, Vincent D'Onofrio and Billy Bob Thornton.

The film will arrive in theaters nationwide on Oct. 10.

The 2014 Toronto International Film Festival runs from Sept. 4-14.
