Entertainment Buzz: Facebook's top 10 moments of the week

The world mourned the loss of a "Maverick" this week, and a memorial tree for former Beatle George Harrison also made headlines for meeting a tragic fate (but with an interesting twist).

But it wasn't all bad news in the entertainment world. Fans of "The Simpsons" got a massive, marathon-level treat, and the hit HBO series "Game of Thrones" got a taste of real-life royalty once again.

Facebook has tallied the top 10 buzziest stories in entertainment this week, and all of those topics made the most-talked-about list. What had you talking? See what you missed in this exclusive list on CBSNews.com.

1. Actor James Garner Dead at 86

Garner, whose whimsical style in the 1950s TV Western "Maverick" led to a stellar career in TV and films such as "The Rockford Files" and his Oscar-nominated "Murphy's Romance," was found dead of natural causes at his home in the Brentwood area of Los Angeles Saturday evening.

Hollywood was left reeling from the news of Garner's death, and stars including Sally Field, Tom Selleck, Carole King, James Woods and Reese Witherspoon all paid tribute to him.

2. George Harrison Memorial Tree in L.A. Killed by Beetles

It's ultimate play on words. A memorial pine tree dedicated to the late Beatles member has been infested and destroyed...by beetles. But his guitar won't gently weep over it for long -- a replacement tree will be replanted in the same location to help carry on Harrison's legacy.

3. FX to Air Every Episode of "The Simpsons" Back-to-Back

Channel your inner Homer and let out a "woo-hoo!" -- the Fox animated series' full 25-year run will arrive on FXX with a summer marathon. Every. Single. Episode. If you're a "Simpsons" fan, this news is definitely something to have a cow over.

And if that's not enough for you, the marathon will be followed this fall by a website and app dubbed "Simpsons World," which will allow on-demand access to all of the 500-plus episodes of the show and enable users to search through the life histories of Mr. Burns, Bart and other lemon-hued Springfield residents.

4. Miley Cyrus Appears in Music Video for Pharrell's "Come Get It Bae"

Models and Miley Cyrus get down in the new music video for Pharrell Williams' "Come Get It Bae." The video, which surfaced Wednesdsay, starts with the on-screen words: "beauty has no expiration date." Next we see leggy models and Cyrus showing off their moves.

And yes, Cyrus does show off her tongue. Not that that would surprise anyone.

5. Ted Nugent Concert Canceled Over Allegations of Racism

A Native American tribe canceled an Aug. 4 concert by Ted Nugent at its casino in Idaho earlier this week, citing the rocker's "racist and hate-filled remarks." The Coeur d'Alene Tribe said it booked Nugent without realizing he espoused "racist attitudes and views," the Associated Press reports, but the tribe did not detail which of Nugent's specific views it opposes.

Nugent defended himself Tuesday in an interview with Radio.com, blaming the cancellation on an "army assigned to destroy Ted Nugent." Later that week, the Puyallup Tribe also said it was canceling Nugent's concerts scheduled for Aug. 2 and 3 at its casino in Washington.

6. HBO's "True Blood" Features Blood-Soaked Ted Cruz Political Fundraiser

On this week's episode of HBO's vampire drama, Eric and Pam attended a (fictional) fundraiser for Ted Cruz at the George W. Bush Presidential Library in Dallas, and the mention caught the attention of the real-life Texas senator.

"Of all the places I never thought to be mentioned, HBO's True Blood vampire show would have to be near the top of the list," Cruz said after the episode aired. On Twitter, he added, "Then again, I guess I never had a chance w/ the vampire vote since the dead tend to vote overwhelmingly for Dems."

7. Benedict Cumberbatch to Star As Codebreaker Alan Turing in "The Imitation Game"

If you like "Sherlock," Tywin Lannister of "Game of Thrones" fame and World War II dramas, have we got a trailer for you. Cumberbatch stars alongside Keira Knightley and Charles Dance in "The Imitation Game," which released its first trailer this week.

The film tells the story of British mathematician Alan Turing, who is credited with cracking the German Engima code during WWII and was later prosecuted for homosexuality. It's set to hit theaters on Nov. 21, right in the middle of fall movie season:

8. Queen's Guard Performs "Game of Thrones" Theme Song Outside Buckingham Palace

Here's further proof that just about everyone loves "Game of Thrones" -- including real-life royalty. Visitors to the London palace were treated to a rendition of the HBO drama's theme song performed by the Queen's Guard during a changing of the guard ceremony. One witness recorded it, but the video on YouTube and the Internet was unsurprisingly delighted.

The only bad news here is this serves as yet another reminder that we won't see any more new "Thrones" episodes until next year. Sigh.

9. "Fight Club 2": Author Chuck Palahniuk Will Publish Sequel as a Graphic Novel

We're breaking the first two rules of Fight Club by talking about Fight Club, but it's worth it to share this news -- Chuck Palahniuk is working on a sequel to his hit 1996 book (which later became a movie starring Brad Pitt and Edward Norton). The follow-up will come in the form of a 10-issue series from Dark Horse Comics and picks up a decade after the original book's ending.

"Fight Club 2" will debut in May 2015.

10. Steven Seagal Dropped From Estonian Music Festival Over Support for Putin

Action star Steven Seagal's scheduled appearance at a blues festival in Estonia (yes, apparently he's a musician, too) was scrapped over the actor's comments supporting Russian president Vladimir Putin and his annexation of the Crimean peninsula -- which Seagal told a Russian news outlet was "entirely reasonable," according to the U.K.'s Guardian.

"We hoped the Estonian public would first and foremost see Steven Seagal as an actor and a musician. It turns out what they saw was rather a politician and a henchman," festival director Indrek Ditman said in a press release. "To many in Estonia, it came as a major surprise that the action movie hero is a blues musician. Likewise, the organizers and numerous others were unpleasantly surprised by his political views and public statements."
