Jason Derulo broke up with Jordin Sparks over the phone

It's hard enough to be broken up with to begin, but over the phone? Yikes. Well, at least it wasn't via text.

Jason Derulo sat down with radio host DJ Envy of New York's Power 105.1 on Wednesday, where he was grilled with questions over his recent split with singer Jordin Sparks, his girlfriend of three years.

When asked how he broke things off, Derulo admitted he did it over the phone. "I wasn't in town," he said.

Not surprisingly, the hosts gave him a hard time with that one.

Derulo denied that he cheated on Sparks and hinted that the breakup was a long time coming.

"Every relationship has their ups and downs and you know, when you start having more downs than ups, you gotta take a look at your relationship and be like, 'Is this something that I'm supposed to be doing?'" he said.

"There was a lot of pressure from the marriage perspective," he added.

When asked about all those cheating allegations, Derulo, 25, said that he's often surrounded by women -- but he didn't stray. "You're going to always see pictures of me with other women," he said. "Women are around me all the time. But you can't just put that women in my bed, just because she put her hand on my shoulder...Women grab a hold to me all the time. You can literally snap a picture of me at any given moment and it could look crazy."

Still, Derulo said he loves Sparks and noted that parting ways has been hard. He says they don't talk often, but he still checks her social media accounts.

Though in case you're wondering -- he didn't cry during the break up.

Sparks, meanwhile, appears to be doing just fine, doing press for her new movie "Left Behind" and spending time with friends:
