Sean Penn settles $10 million lawsuit against Lee Daniels after receiving apology

Sometimes it really is just all about saying you're sorry.

Sean Penn is calling off his $10 million defamation lawsuit against director Lee Daniels after reaching a settlement that included Daniels issuing an apology and making a donation to one of Penn's favorite charities, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Penn sued Daniels in September over remarks the "Empire" creator made in an interview including Penn in a discussion of actors committing domestic violence.

"['Empire' star Terrence Howard] ain't done nothing different than Marlon Brando or Sean Penn, and all of a sudden he's some f**king demon," Daniels said in the interview. "That's a sign of the time, of race, of where we are right now in America."

Penn was quick to point out that he has never been arrested for domestic violence. In December, Penn amended his complaint to include words of support from ex-wife Madonna.

"I am so sorry that I have hurt you, Sean, and I apologize and retract my reckless statements about you," Daniels said in his official statement. "How thoughtless of me. You are someone I consider a friend, a brilliant actor and true Hollywood legend and humanitarian."

Daniels also made a donation in an unspecified sum to the J/P Haitian Relief Organization.
