"Puddle of Mudd" frontman accused of fleeing police while drunk
BIRD ISLAND, Minn. --The frontman for rock band Puddle of Mudd is facing charges after allegedly leading police on a high-speed chase while very drunk in southern Minnesota Sunday, reports the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
Wes Scantlin, 43, appeared Monday in Renville County District Court on charges of fleeing police in a motor vehicle, a felony, and two counts of DUI, reports the paper. He was released after posting bail.
Police say the singer, who lives in the Los Angeles area but had been performing about 100 miles north of where he was pulled over, was spotted speeding in Bird Island by a sheriff's sergeant around 4 a.m. Sunday.
Scantlin allegedly reached speeds of 100 miles per hour in a 60 mile per hour zone, reports the paper. Police allege he was slurring his speech, smelled of alcohol, had bloodshot and watery eyes, and blew a .31 on a preliminary breath test - nearly four times the state's legal limit for driving.
Scantlin has had several run-ins with police in recent years, and has faced drug charges and accusations that he attacked his ex-wife.
He was also reportedly bailed out of jail by a fan in January after allegedly riding on a baggage carousel at the Denver International Airport.
