Pink Floyd sets release date for "The Endless River"
Pink Floyd has set a Nov. 10 release date for its new album.
"The Endless River" will feature 18 tracks from David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Richard Wright, who died in 2008. Roger Waters, who parted ways with Floyd in 1985, isn't a part of the latest release.
The upcoming album stems from Pink Floyd's '90s recording sessions, the same ones that culminated in the group's last studio release, 1994's "The Division Bell." Samson, an author and lyricist, also described the new release as the "swansong" for Rick Wright, the band's keyboard player who died of cancer in 2008 at age 65.
According to a press release, "In 2013 David Gilmour and Nick Mason revisited the music from those sessions and decided that the tracks should be made available as part of the Pink Floyd repertoire. It would be the last time the three of them would be heard together. The band have spent the last year recording and upgrading the music, using the advantages of modern studio technology to create 'The Endless River.'"
"The Endless River" is made up of mostly instrumental music. One track, called "Louder Than Words," features lyrics written by Gilmour's wife, Polly Samson.
"The Division Bell," which was mostly written by Gilmour and Wright, reached No. 1 on Billboard's album chart when it came out in 1994. Samson also co-wrote some of the song's lyrics. The album was recently reissued as part of 20th anniversary package.
