Cynthia Lennon, John Lennon's one-time wife, dies
Cynthia Lennon, the one-time wife of John Lennon and mother of Julian Lennon, has died. She was 75.
Julian Lennon's rep told CBS News she died Wednesday at her home in Mallorca, Spain, following a "short but brave battle with cancer." Her son was at her bedside throughout.
Born Cynthia Powell in Blackpool, Lancashire, in England, Cynthia Lennon became interested in art at an early age. She met John Lennon when she was an 18-year-old student at the Liverpool College of Art -- prior to the Beatles' rise to fame.
Cynthia Lennon and John Lennon married in 1962 and welcomed son Julian Lennon the following year.
Shortly afterwards, the Beatles would make their mark on history in a groundbreaking performance on "The Ed Sullivan Show."
It all meant that John Lennon had been traveling the world during their son's younger years. "When dad moved away when I was 3 or 4, I lived with mom and we lived a totally isolated life from the world that was going on with the Beatles," Julian Lennon told CBS News in 2014.
John and Cynthia Lennon divorced in 1968. By 1969, the Beatle had married Yoko Ono.
Cynthia Lennon later published two books about her life with John Lennon: "A Twist of Lennon," which came out in 1980 and "John" in 1995.
