New York City theater to host live reading of "The Interview"

Sony may have scrapped the release of the movie "The Interview," but it will be in at least at one theater in New York City -- onstage, that is.

Treehouse Theater said Monday it will put on a free reading of the film's script on Dec. 27, giving "an opportunity for people to come together in the name of free speech, in defiance of all who have threatened it."

Sony Pictures canceled the release of the movie "The Interview," a comedy that revolves around the assassination of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, after receiving threats of terrorist attacks from hackers.

The Treehouse production will feature members of the comic Upright Citizen's Brigade theater and will be held in its 50-seat black box theater.

There's no word of what will come of the film. Last week, Sony said it would not be releasing the big-screen comedy, but the company's lawyer said Sunday that it will be distributed at some point. Some are speculating whether Sony will decide to release the film digitally.
