CBS to salute David Letterman with May 4 special
CBS will bid adieu to David Letterman with a 90-minute tribute on May 4 at 9:30 p.m. ET.
Hosted by comic Ray Romano the 90-minute special, called "A Life on Television," will honor Letterman's television career, highlighting some of his interviews with presidents, world leaders, sports figures and celebrities.
It will also feature some of his trademark bits, including the Top Ten List and Stupid Pet and Human Tricks. Viewers will also get to see part of Letterman's "Late Show" broadcast from Sept. 17, 2001, the show's first broadcast after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Letterman has lined up a slew of guests for his final days on the air, including George Clooney, Robert Downey, Jr., Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, Tom Hanks, Scarlett Johansson, Michael Keaton, Steve Martin, Bill Murray, Sarah Jessica Parker, Don Rickles, Julia Roberts, Jerry Seinfeld, Martin Short, Howard Stern, John Travolta, Bruce Willis, Oprah Winfrey, The Avett Brothers, Elvis Costello, Dave Matthews Band, Emmylou Harris, Norah Jones, Mumford and Sons and more.
The late-night talk show host made his debut on the "Late Show" on Aug. 30, 1993. His final episode will air May 20 -- after 6,028 late-night shows over 33 years on CBS and NBC.
Stephen Colbert will take over hosting duties.
