Sandra Lee heading home after double mastectomy

Sandra Lee is heading home from the hospital to continue her rest and recovery after undergoing a double mastectomy earlier this week.

"Today is an exciting day!" said a post on her official Facebook page. "Sandra is going home to [Lily] Pond with her sister Kimber and Governor Cuomo. She is most excited to sleep in her own bed -- and see [pet birds] Phoenix and Halo when she wakes up!"

The celebrity chef and longtime partner of of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo was diagnosed with breast cancer in March and underwent a double mastectomy on Tuesday. That day, Gov. Cuomo said in a statement that she was "doing as well as could be expected has begun the post-surgery recovery process."

On Sunday, Lee's team took to her Facebook page to thank those who have supported her as she recovers.

"On her behalf, we want to thank so many people for reaching out and taking the time to send such beautiful flowers, fruits, chocolates, notes and emails," the post said. "A very special thank you to Robin Roberts, Elton John, David Furnish, Rita Wilson, Christina Applegate, Jon Bon Jovi, Judith Light, Martha Stewart, Mario Batali, Bryant and Hillary Gumbel, Jane Fonda and Dr Oz."
