Paleo diet founder publishes new cookbook

Paleo people around the world, rejoice! Paleo diet founder Loren Cordain Ph.D. has released a new cookbook that promises to make the trendy but tough-to-stick-with diet a little more palatable.

Though not the first of its kind, The Real Paleo Diet Cookbook's claim to fame is the man behind it. Cordain is the foremost expert in the diet that's hooked millions on the idea of eating everyday, modern food groups that mimic the food groups our ancestors ate tens of thousands of years ago. He claims that the Paleo diet will help you stay in shape and reduce your risk of chronic illness including heart disease and diabetes.

Recipes in the cookbook are based on the seven tenets of the Paleo diet:

  • higher protein
  • lower carbohydrate
  • higher fiber
  • higher potassium and lower sodium intake
  • moderate to higher fat intake
  • increasing intake of more alkaline foods
  • higher intake of antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and plant phytochemicals.

Some experts are not fans of the Paleo way of avoiding entire categories of foods like dairy, grains and legumes, saying that people miss out on key vitamins and minerals.

It can also be incredibly challenging to stick with the limited foods that are allowed on the plan. The diet is quite restrictive and takes planning and dedication to stick to the program of grass-fed meats, fish, fruits and veggies. It takes more than a little willpower to consistently say no to all processed foods, sugar, wheat, grains and dairy. But if you find you can adhere to the regimented lifestyle, you'll be among the likes of hot-bodied Paleo-loving celebrities like Jessica Biel and Megan Fox.

With sections in the cookbook including breakfast and brunch, appetizers, snack and beverages, salads, slaws and vegetable sides and treats, maybe Cordain's new cookbook will make it a little easier to stay inspired on the Paleo path.
