Woman allegedly attacked boyfriend with ax, went after neighbors

LUNENBURG, Mass. - A Massachusetts woman has been arrested after she allegedly attacked her boyfriend with an ax before also going after the couple across the street, reports CBS Boston.

Rhonda Ravanis, 47, was taken into custody after Donna and Rusty Scott called 911, saying their neighbor was attempting to break into their Lunenburg home with an ax in Worcester County, Mass.

The call came in around 1:00 a.m. Wednesday, according to the station, and officers arrived at the scene to arrest the woman. They also found her live-in boyfriend, 53-year-old Robert Volpe, with ax wounds to the neck. He was rushed to the hospital and has since undergone two surgeries.

Donna and Rusty Scott told CBS Boston that Ravanis took the ax to their front door. She allegedly broke the lock but still could not get inside the home. The Scotts said she then tried to break in a window before police intervened.

"We worried all the time, especially this last week," Donna Scott told the station. The Scotts said Ravanis had issues in the past and Ravanis had been acting erratically, at one point emptying her belongings into the yard.

"She doesn't take her medication, she's off the wall. You never know what she's going to do," Donna Scott said.

Officers told CBS Boston that Ravanis was spitting in court, forcing the judge to postpone her arraignment until May 22. The suspect is being held and bail has not yet been set. The judge also ordered Ravanis to undergo a competency evaluation. She faces several charges, including attempted murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, vandalizing property, and resisting arrest.
