Letter written by NHL player's daughter pushes unlikely trade
With tenure with seven NHL teams under his belt, Jordan Leopold has lived in many places. But his family wanted him closer to home, nobody more so than his daughter Jordyn.
So she did the only thing a kid can do to influence getting her dad back home: She wrote a letter.
According to Minnesota radio station KFAN, Jordyn, 11 wrote to the Minnesota Wild organization asking that they please trade for her dad. who recently joined the Columbus Blue Jackets, to bring him home. It was heart-warming and heart-breaking all at once.
"It has been since November [that Leopold was traded to Columbus] and we cannot take it anymore," her note says. "Well to get to the point, the Wild have not been winning games and you lovely coaches are most likely mad about that, but your team needs some more D men, so can you please, please, please ask the Jacket if you guys can get him! Thanks."
Apparently, the letter worked. Leopold was dealt to the Minnesota Wild ahead of Monday's trade deadline for a draft pick and Justin Falk.
Blue Jackets GM Jarmo Kekalainen tweeted, "It isn't always about business." This is a winner for all sides after this.
