The White House has been put on lockdown after a woman threw a suspicious package over the fence
Suspicious package puts White House on lockdown 02:24

The White House lifted a three-hour-long lockdown on Monday afternoon, which occurred after a person threw a metal object over the fence on the north side of the complex.

It was placed under lockdown at 12:15 p.m. and emergency personnel arrived at an area near the North Lawn. A few ambulances and at least one firetruck was on the scene and people in Hazmat suits were there as well to test the object.

According to the Secret Service, a person threw a metal object over the north fence at the White House and officers "immediately apprehended the individual without incident."

Tests of the metal object came back with negative results, the Secret Service said.

The security breach happened a short time after President Obama had returned from Arlington National Cemetery, where he attended a Memorial Day ceremony in the morning.
