Cops: Woman in ICU sold heroin from hospital bed

GREENSBURG, Pa. - A woman in western Pennsylvania is accused of selling heroin from her hospital room.

Lori Sullenberger, 38, was charged Tuesday with felony and misdemeanor drug charges for allegedly selling the narcotic from her room in the Intensive Care Unit of Excela Westmoreland Hospital in Greensburg, just outside Pittsburgh.

Spokeswoman Jennifer Miele says hospital security became suspicious of the large number of people flowing in and out of the woman's room.

"The foot traffic was extreme, but [the visitors] weren't staying," Miele told CBS Pittsburgh. "Instead of staying for 20 minutes, they were staying for two minutes."

It wasn't clear Tuesday evening if Sullenberger had hired a lawyer. Two others who police say bought or had drugs from the woman face misdemeanor charges.

Greensburg police say an undercover informant bought $90 worth of heroin Friday from the woman, who was being treated for an undisclosed ailment at the hospital. A police search of the room also uncovered 350 stamp bags of heroin worth $3,800, two syringes, and $1,400 in cash.

CBS Pittsburgh reports that officers also found several cell phones in the room.
