"Ax-ident": Passenger survives hatchet lodged in windshield

TOPSFIELD, Mass. - An ax smashed through the windshield of a car on a highway north of Boston, after it fell from a landscaper's dump truck, authorities said.

Massachusetts State Police said the ax bounced out of the truck at about 11 a.m. Wednesday on southbound Interstate 95 in Topsfield. They say the car's passenger was "shaken up" but -- believe it or not -- uninjured.

The truck driver, from Peabody, Mass., another Boston suburb, was cited for failing to secure the ax, which carries a $200 fine.

Police said it could have been worse if the driver of the car had been traveling faster than the 65 mph speed limit.
