Woman's bad night didn't stop at car wreck near cliff

NEW SCOTLAND, N.Y. -- Authorities say a woman wrecked her car, ran into the woods when responding officers showed up and fell about 60 feet off a cliff in New York.

The woman was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after the fall Tuesday night. CBS Albany affiliate WRGB-TV reports dozens of emergency personnel responded to rescue her.

Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple says the 38-year-old local woman was involved in a one-car accident on a road leading to Thacher State Park in New Scotland, just west of the capital. He says alcohol is believed to have played a role.

Apple says after the crash, the woman went to a nearby home for help. He says she fled when police arrived and then fell off the cliff.

Crews spent more than two hours trying to rescue her.

She hasn't been charged, but the incident remains under investigation.
