Man in wheelchair killed, caretaker injured in Philly home invasion
PHILADELPHIA -- A Philadelphia home invasion Thursday night left a wheelchair user dead and his caregiver injured, reports CBS Philly.
Police say the incident happened around 11:30 p.m. Thursday. Investigators say a 36-year-old man in a wheelchair and his 51-year-old caregiver had just arrived home for the evening, reports CBS Philly. The caregiver had just helped him up the steps and inside the home when two armed men forced their way in, the station reports.
The man in the wheelchair was struggling to keep the door closed when he was shot in the head and killed, police tell the station.
The suspects fled and chased the caregiver down the street, firing shots at him and striking him once in the leg. He was reportedly transported to the hospital in stable condition.
Family members inside the home included a woman, a teen, two-year-old twins and a four-year-old, Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small told the station.
"They were all upstairs at the time They heard the commotion, they heard the shooting," Small said. "However, they were upstairs in the bedroom and did not see anything."
Police do not have a motive for the shooting but are calling it a home invasion, CBS Philly reports. The search for the two gunmen continues.
