Ohio man indicted in scalding death of his son, 4

LEBANON, Ohio -- A grand jury has indicted an Ohio man who prosecutors say waited 15 hours to call for help despite knowing his wife had placed his 4-year-old son in scalding water, eventually causing the child's death.

A Warren County grand jury indicted Robert Ritchie, of Franklin, Monday on charges including involuntary manslaughter and child endangering.

Prosecutors say that, in March, Ritchie's wife, Anna, put Austin Cooper in water estimated at 130 degrees for at least 20 minutes as punishment.

CBS Cincinnati affiliate WKRC-TV reports Austin was being disciplined for not wanting to take a bath.

Prosecutor David Fornshell says the boy was bleeding and had skin coming off his legs when she put his pajamas on and put him to bed at 4:30 p.m., the station adds.

Authorities say Robert knew he had been burned and scalded, and was blistering. Robert found the boy dead the next morning.

Robert's attorney, Frank Schiavone IV, says they believe justice will prevail.

Anna has denied the allegations. She faces six charges including murder, felonious assault and child endangering.

Fornshell has said previously that if Austin had received medical help, he would have had a 95 percent chance of surviving his injuries, WKRC says.

Fornshell had said the Ritchies only had custody of Austin because the boy's mother didn't show up for a custody hearing, the station says, adding Fornshell believed Anna was resentful of becoming his caregiver.

Anna Ritchie is held on $1 million dollars bond.
