While Donald Trump still leads in New Hampshire, two candidates vie for second place
Donald Trump continues to dominate the GOP field in New Hampshire, according to a new CNN/ WMUR poll, but the race for second place may have thinned out a little.
Just one day ahead of the Granite State primary, the poll shows Trump with 31 percent support, while Sen. Marco Rubio earns 17 percent support and Sen. Ted Cruz takes 14 percent. Rubio and Cruz are statistically tied, given the poll's margin of error, but they have a clear lead over the remaining GOP candidates.
In previous New Hampshire polls, including one released by Monmouth University on Sunday, several candidates were tied for second place.
The CNN poll shows Ohio Gov. John Kasich coming in third with 10 percent, while Florida Gov. Jeb Bush wins 7 percent support. Former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina takes 5 percent, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie wins 4 percent and retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson earns 3 percent.
About three-quarters of the interviews for this survey were conducted prior to Saturday night's GOP debate, in which Rubio stumbled, though the interviews conducted after the debate suggest it didn't have much impact, CNN reports.
Meanwhile, Sen. Bernie Sanders holds his large lead in the Democratic primary, according to the poll, leading Hillary Clinton 61 percent to 35 percent.
Undeclared voters in New Hampshire -- those who are neither registered for the Democratic or Republican party -- can choose to participate in the either the GOP or Democratic primary, and this poll suggests they are split. Forty-seven percent told CNN they would vote in the Democratic primary, 46 percent said they'd participate in the GOP primary, and 7 percent were unsure.
