Cops: Propane tank explodes under Boston police cruiser in "deliberate act"

BOSTON -- Boston police say it appears as if someone used an explosive device to intentionally set a police cruiser on fire.

Commissioner William Evans says no one was hurt when a propane tank exploded in South Boston on Friday morning. According to CBS Boston, Evans called the incident a “deliberate act.”

According to the station, police said someone walked by the cruiser – which was reportedly near a police station with an officer inside -- and threw a propane tank underneath it. The officer was able to quickly move the cruiser, and after doing so the propane tank exploded.

The officer wasn’t injured.

Evans called the incident “troubling.” He says the explosion was likely caught on surveillance video.

There have been no arrests. The FBI is assisting in the investigation.
