Curt Schilling asks Jake Tapper: Why do Jews vote Democratic?

Schilling brings up faith
Curt Schilling: Why do Jews support Democrats? 01:37

Curt Schilling doesn’t even need to his controversial social media posts to go viral.

In an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper, the former Red Sox pitcher (who says he plans to challenge Elizabeth Warren for her Senate seat in 2018) said to Tapper that he “wanted to ask you something as a person who is practicing the Jewish faith and have since you were young.”

“I don’t understand, and maybe this is the amateur, non-politician in me, I don’t understand how people of Jewish faith can back the Democratic Party, which over the last 50 years has been so clearly anti-Israel, so clearly anti-Jewish Israel,” Schilling said.

Tapper kept his cool and answered “well, I don’t speak for Jews. And I don’t support the Democratic Party or the Republican Party. I would imagine, to try to answer your question, that one of the reasons many Jews are Democrats has more to do with Democrats’ support for social welfare programs and that sort of thing.”

Tapper finished off by re-stating “well I don’t speak for Jews.” The clip has been making the rounds on social media since it aired Friday.

Schilling, who led both the Philadelphia Phillies and the Boston Red Sox to World Series victories, was fired by ESPN in April for posting offensive content on social media about transgender individuals.
