Amy Adams "confused," "frustrated" by "Today" show cancellation

Amy Adams says she still doesn't understand why her appearance on the "Today" show was canceled earlier this week right before it was due to take place.

The actress' interview on the morning program was pulled Monday after she expressed misgivings about discussing the recent Sony Pictures hacking controversy during the interview.

At a screening of her new film "Big Eyes" on Tuesday night, Adams told USA Today she was supposed to discuss the movie on the "Today" show, but producers told her the Sony hacking fallout would also be addressed during the interview. (The Daily Beast reported earlier this month that leaked emails from the Sony Pictures hack revealed that "American Hustle" stars Adams and Jennifer Lawrence were paid less than their male counterparts, Christian Bale and Bradley Cooper.)

"I expressed that I was uncomfortable. I said I would rather not add my voice to this conversation," Adams explained. "But it was clear they were drawing a hard line. That this would be part of the conversation."

She added, "I walked away from the conversation and went up to the room to do the interview. I assumed they were going to ask me about (Sony hacking). And I was prepared for that, to whatever degree I was prepared."

But then she was told the interview wasn't going to happen.

"I was informed that they had decided to pull the interview," Adams said. "I was confused and definitely frustrated. I still don't understand."

On Monday, a spokesperson for the "Today" show addressed the cancellation in a statement, saying, "As a news program, the 'Today' show doesn't allow guests to put restrictions on interviews. In this case, after hours of discussion we felt uncomfortable with the demands being made and we determined the best course of action for all parties involved was to cancel the interview."

Adams' "Big Eyes" opens in theaters on Christmas Day.
