TLC cancels "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo"

TLC has canceled "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo" in the wake of a report that claimed the reality series' matriarch, June "Mama June" Shannon, is dating a man once convicted of child molestation.

"TLC has cancelled the series 'Here Comes Honey Boo Boo' and ended all activities around the series, effective immediately," the network said in a statement Friday morning. "Supporting the health and welfare of these remarkable children is our only priority. TLC is faithfully committed to the children's ongoing comfort and well-being."

TMZ, which first reported the show's cancellation, published a report Thursday that said Shannon is dating Mark McDaniel, 53, who was convicted of aggravated child molestation in 2004 and served 10 years in prison. Following that report, TLC said it was "reassessing the future of the series."

Shannon denied that claim in a post on daughter Alana "Honey Boo Boo" Thompson's official Facebook page.

"I want to make a post trying to clear up the rumors remember you can't believe everything you read!" she wrote. "[People] sell stories to the tabloid everyday that [are] false! It isn't true I promise my kids [are] #1 priority over anything else and I would never put them in danger period over this or anything else they [are] my life this is my past I left him 10 [years] ago for it and I wouldn't go back."

She also posted what she called a "truth video" on Friday, responding to news of the show's cancellation:

"Here Comes Honey Boo Boo," which premiered in 2012, followed former child beauty pageant contestant Alana and her family, and filmed primarily in their rural hometown of McIntyre, Georgia. They first rose to fame after appearing on another TLC reality series, "Toddlers & Tiaras."
