Game changed

Russia is launching cruise missiles as part of a coordinated ground and air attack with the Syrian regime, and after four years of civil war that has left more than 250,000 people dead, the Russian campaign may be tipping the balance on the battlefield in favor of the Syrian dictator President Obama has said must go.

Hillary vs. Wall Street

Hillary Clinton is introducing a spate of proposals intended to prevent another taxpayer-funded Wall Street bailout, according to a Clinton campaign aide. Under her plan, she would impose a tax on high-frequency trading, and she intends to close a loophole in the Volcker Rule.

Trump's business

On the campaign trail, Donald Trump recently talked about his philosophy on settling lawsuits. We took a closer look at a few cases Trump settled in the late 2000s that revealed some things about his business dealings.

Jeb on guns

Following the shooting at an Oregon community college that left nine people dead, many are calling for stricter gun laws. Former Florida governor and Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush has told CBS News why his is not among those voices.

New speaker

Even after some major missteps, challenges from upstart conservatives and loud rumblings of discontent from Republicans overall, House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy is still the most likely candidate to emerge as the House GOP's nominee for speaker. That doesn't mean, however, that it will be an easy move from the No. 2 slot to No. 1.

Hypnosis deaths

The families of three Florida high school students who died after their principal hypnotized them have prevailed in a civil wrongful death suit against the school board. Each family will each receive $200,000 in a legal settlement with the Sarasota County school board. But the parents of one of the victims, Brittany Palumbo, told CBS News this case is about raising awareness, not money. Vladimir Duthiers reports.

Interstellar tunes

Tomorrow, Canadian Chris Hadfield will release an album of 12 songs written and recorded in space. Hollywood may keep churning out space adventures, and real life news from Mars will always make headlines, but it's the 53-year-old retired Canadian astronaut who's leaving a new generation positively star-struck.
