Massive delays after truck fire closes New Jersey Turnpike

LINDEN, N.J. -- Traffic is at a standstill and there are heavy delays for miles after a dump truck burst into flames, shutting down the New Jersey Turnpike in both directions, reports CBS New York.

The crash happened on the southbound side of the turnpike around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Linden. Few details are known, but the truck somehow overturned, catching fire underneath the Wood Avenue overpass between exits 12 and 13, reports CBS New York.

New Jersey State Police said on Twitter to expect delays through rush hour.

Video from the scene shows firefighters pouring water on the burning truck. Smoke from the fire could be seen from miles away.

CBS New York reports that cars could be seen turning around on the turnpike and going the wrong way in their lanes as a result of the gridlock stretching for more than five miles.

It's still unclear if anyone was hurt.
