Cops: Ohio cable guy finds young girl's decomposed body in crib

MEDINA, Ohio -Police say a cable repair worker found a young girl's badly decomposed body in a crib at a northeast Ohio apartment, and her father was arrested.

Police say her father, Eric Warfel, was arrested without incident in Westlake. Medina police say the remains discovered Wednesday morning are believed to be Ember Warfel, a girl born Oct. 24, 2013, but it's not known when or how she died.

The Medina man remained jailed Thursday pending a court appearance on a felony corpse abuse charge. The child's body has been sent to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner for an autopsy to determine cause of death, reports CBS affiliate WOIO.

The station reports the child's body had been decomposing for at least a month.

Police say additional charges are pending, reports the station. Authorities had no information on an attorney for him.

A 7-year-old daughter found with Warfel at a park was placed with relatives as officers worked to locate the mother of the deceased child. Police told the station she is in New York City and they were working with the NYPD to try to find her.

"We had issues with smells here. We just thought it was cooking. We used incense. Didn't think it was anything like this," neighbor Jeremy King told the station.

Northeast Ohio Media Group reports that Warfel had another daughter who died as an infant in March 2013.
