Gun safety lesson turns dangerous

DAVIE, Fla.-- A father accidentally shot his daughter while teaching her about gun safety Sunday night, police said.

Davie Police said sometime before 8:00, the 12-year-old girl was hit in the arm, though they didn't say which arm, reports CBS Miami.

"I thought I heard a gunshot. I thought it was the kids outside playing with fireworks," Kara Perez, who went outside to see what was going on, told the station.

Within minutes, she said she saw a number of Davie police officers and fire rescue units at the scene.

Perez and her friend saw the girl walk out of the home with her arm wrapped up and covered in blood.

"There was blood running down her leg. She had white shorts on, so you could tell her whole front and side were full of blood," said Perez. "You could see in her face that she was in pain."

"She had blood all over her," said Perez's friend, Cindy Barnes. "She was hunched over when she was walking out and we saw the dad out there with the police. He seemed really calm."

The girl was rushed to a nearby hospital in stable condition.

Police questioned the father at the site of the accident.

There was no word on whether the father would face any charges.
