"CBS This Morning" co-host Gayle King co-hosted the Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Awards Tuesday honoring outstanding contributions to journalism. CBS News foreign correspondent Elizabeth Palmer received an award for her coverage of the Syrian civil war, and CBS News national security correspondent David Martin accepted an award for a "60 Minutes" report called "The New Cold War.

The duPont-Columbia Awards honor news reports and documentaries every year for the strength of their storytelling, reporting and impact. The 16 winners of the 2018 awards were announced in early December.

"This year's duPont-Columbia winners reflect the current news media landscape: a mix of both legacy journalism and emerging platforms, including several combinations of both," a news release said.

Palmer has been a CBS News correspondent since 2000 and has been based in London since late 2003. Martin has been CBS News' national security correspondent, covering the Pentagon and State Department, since 1993.
