Widespread power outage hits downtown Seattle
SEATTLE -- An equipment failure caused a large power outage in Seattle, Washington, on Wednesday Seattle's electric utility said on Twitter.
Seattle City Light previously tweeted that a equipment failure at Massachusetts Street Substation caused the widespread outage.
The utility said on Twitter that power was restored around 12:30 p.m. PDT.
Washington State Ferries said on Twitter that the outage impacted the Seattle ferry terminal, but all the ferries were still running.
The outage map had not updated on the Seattle City Light website, but many turned to social media saying that the downtown core was dark, CBS affiliate KIRO reported.
One user on Instagram said they were stuck on Seattle's Great Wheel, the giant Ferris wheel in Seattle.
Police said they were being deployed downtown to assist with traffic control, KIRO reported.
