Blizzard falling short?

Tens of millions of people along the East Coast hunkered down for a storm that for most was apparently failing to live up to predictions of being one of the worst they'd ever seen. Forecasters originally said the storm could bring 1 to 3 feet of snow and punishing hurricane-force winds. But early today, they downgraded most of those numbers, saying New England would fare the worst, but even there not as bad as expected. Get the latest on CBSN.

Snow plow app

In many big cities, snow plows are now equipped with GPS trackers. The technology used to direct the plows also gives real-time updates on clean-up efforts. CBS News correspondent Vladimir Duthier reports on PlowNYC, an app that's putting residents in the driver's seat.

Deflate-gate

A locker room attendant may be the latest focus for the NFL in the deflated footballs investigation. CBS News correspondent Jan Crawford reports one leak says a surveillance video shows the attendant taking the footballs to another room before bringing them out to the field. Also, Patriots owner Bob Kraft is lashing out over leaks in the investigation.

Long-range attack

The target was a poultry farm that ISIS had turned into a staging area. It was located in Syria, but the planning for the air strike -- and hundreds like it -- was carried out some 6,000 miles away, at Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina. CBS News Pentagon correspondent David Martin was given an inside look at the targeting center where intelligence analysts pour over satellite photos.

Drone nightmare

Yesterday, a drone came down on the White House lawn, triggering a lockdown. By the afternoon, the Secret Service had spoken with the person who said he was responsible. But, CBS News correspondent Jeff Pegues reports, drones are a potential security nightmare across the globe.

Setting the pace

Jeb Bush's acknowledgement in December that he would "actively explore" a presidential bid quickly reordered the 2016 GOP landscape. Since then, his aggressive fundraising for a super PAC and his assiduous behind-the-scenes courtship of donors and party officials have underscored how seriously he's taking the enterprise. Bush's potential rivals have taken note, with several accelerating their timelines, to try to slow him down.

Savings missed

With mortgage interest rates falling once again to near record lows, many homeowners will wonder if they should refinance their homes. They'll find many websites and other information sources that can be used to help make their decisions. Even so, recent research suggests homeowners are missing out on billions of dollars in potential savings.

Pet plastic surgery

Behind that wide, panting grin, two-year-old miniature schnauzer Chip is hiding a secret. He's been neutered, but most people will never be able to tell. Chip is the proud owner of Neuticles, or testicular implants for dogs. Neuticles are only one of the pet "plastic surgeries" that cats and dogs are undergoing. U.S. dog owners spent $62 million in one year on plastic surgery treatments.

Family memories

Danielle Guenther was a stay-at-home mom who decided to turn her photography hobby into a business two years ago. As a lifestyle photographer, she takes beautiful pictures of families but, CBS News correspondent Elaine Quijano reports, it's the moments that some parents might wish to hide that Guenther is transforming into funny, lasting memories.
