Cop rescues dog darting through traffic on highway

FORT WORTH, Texas -- A dog rescue caught on cellphone camera in Fort Worth spread through social media Wednesday, CBS Dallas station KTVT reports.

Fort Worth motorcycle police officer James Shiderly said he had just finished eating lunch when he hopped on Interstate 30.

He said soon after getting on the highway he noticed, "all of a sudden traffic came to a halt."

He noticed a dog was darting through traffic and evading a woman who was trying to catch the dog.

Shiderly jumped into action and managed to not only control the traffic but catch up to the dog and ultimately rescue it.

"It made me feel really good because if it was my dog I would expect an officer to try and help, or anyone for that matter, to try and help and get that dog to safety," said Shiderly.

The officer said he had no idea his efforts to save the dog were being captured by a cellphone camera from someone inside a nearby building.

The dog was taken to a nearby animal clinic to be checked out, and animal control officers were trying to reunite it with its owner.
