Centenarian couple celebrates 82 years of marriage

Love could very well be the secret to this couple's longevity.

According to The Journal News, Duranord Veillard, a resident of Spring Valley, New York, will turn 108 this Saturday. His wife, Jeanne, will turn 105 in May.

They've been married 82 years, the Journal News reports. That's a year longer than the couple crowned as the Longest Married Couple of 2015, an unofficial honor presented by the faith-based group Worldwide Marriage Encounter.

Born Feb. 28, 1907, Duranord grew up in Haiti. He married Jeanne in 1932.

"I found him in the street," Jeanne joked when the paper asked how they first met.

They moved to the U.S. in 1968 after Duranord lost his job as a judge, and settled in Spring Valley, where he found work as a hospital lab technician.

The couple raised five children and now they have 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

The Journal News describes Duranord as nearly blind and hard of hearing. He and his wife cannot walk without assistance.

But according to the paper, Duranord starts each morning with pushups, followed by tea, fresh fruit and oatmeal.

When asked by the paper what's behind their long, healthy years, Duranord responded in French Creole: "That's God."
