2 escaped inmates in S.C. captured, 1 still on the run

GOOSE CREEK, S.C. -- Two of three inmates who escaped from a South Carolina jail have been captured by authorities, while the third inmate is still on the run, CBS affiliate WCSC reported.

Dorchester County Sheriff L.C. Knight said three inmates pried open a window to get out of the Dorchester County Jail early Friday morning.

According to the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office, inmates Michael Chaplin and Matthew Chaplin were captured in a residence on Foxboro Road in Goose Creek on Sunday night.

Inmate Donald Ray Little remains on the run, and his whereabouts are currently unknown.

The three inmates were observed by jail staff at approximately 3 a.m. Friday, according to Dorchester County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Sam Richardson. But approximately 35 minutes later, the three were missing, WCSC reported.

Richardson said the inmates broke a metal support bar from a writing table and used the bar to pry open a window.

They escaped wearing only their T-shirts and underwear. They used bed linens to lower themselves to the ground floor, Richardson said.

Baker said the escaped inmates led deputies on a car chase through the Sangaree area Saturday afternoon.

They abandoned their vehicle near the 203 mile marker of Frontage Road, and ran off into the woods near Wannamaker Park.

Richardson said Little was jailed on a probation violation. Matthew Chaplin was jailed on charges of grand larceny, two counts of breaking into automobiles, possession of meth, possession of a stolen motor vehicle and financial transaction card fraud, he said.

Michael Chaplin was jailed on two counts of second-degree burglary, two counts of third-degree burglary and grand larceny charges.

Anyone with information on the location of Little should contact the Dorchester County Sheriff's Office.
