Cops: 2 in custody in Phila. carjacking crash that killed 3 children

PHILADELPHIA - Police said two persons of interest are in custody in connection with a carjacking and hit-and-run crash that left three children dead in North Philadelphia, reports CBS Philly.

Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey said Monday morning that he is confident the two men in custody are the suspects authorities had been looking for, according to the station.

The search began Friday morning after three children - 15-year-old Keiearra Williams, 10-year-old Thomas Reed and 7-year-old Terrence Moore - were struck and killed by an out-of-control, stolen SUV while they were selling fruit at an intersection in Philadelphia's Tioga neighborhood.

"Let me put it this way: I'm satisfied that we don't have to have a manhunt out there right now," Ramsey said. "Let's deal with what we have not and unless things take a turn, then we're pretty confident that we have people who can have valuable information we need to bring this to a successful conclusion."

The two suspects reportedly carjacked the vehicle at gunpoint only moments before the fatal crash.

The commissioner said no charges have been filed against the men at this point. Neither has been identified. Ramsey said there would be a briefing later in the day on Monday, according to CBS Philly.

The station reports the children's mother, 34-year-old Keisha Williams, remains hospitalized and is in fair condition after being injured in the crash.

Police offered a reward of $110,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction of the suspects. Ramsey said authorities did receive calls, but also credited good detective work in helping to break the case.
