Christie declares
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie will declare his presidential candidacy later today, joining the 13 Republican candidates who have already fixed their sights on the White House in 2016. He enters the race as an underdog. A Monmouth University poll released earlier this month ranked him at just four percent among GOP primary voters nationwide, trailing top-tier contenders. It wasn't supposed to be this way. Here are five things to know about Chris Christie.
Escape details
Residents in northern New York are breathing a sigh of relief now that the manhunt for prison escapees Richard Matt and David Sweat is over. CBS News Correspondent Anna Werner reports New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said the duo planned to kill a prison worker's husband and travel to Mexico, but when their plan fell through, they hiked on foot toward Canada. New details of their plans are coming out.
Confederate flag
The Confederate flag is no longer flying over Fort Sumter, South Carolina, where Southerners fired the first shots of the Civil War. Legislators may be ready to do the same at the statehouse, where one person faces charges after supporters and opponents of the rebel flag slugged it out yesterday. Every day the flag continues to fly, emotions on both sides of the issue run higher. CBS News Correspondent Michelle Miller reports from Emanuel AME Church in Charleston.
Still talking
Senior U.S. and Iranian diplomats were to rejoin intense negotiations Tuesday in Austria over the Islamic Republic's disputed nuclear program, and were expected to keep talking past the pre-agreed evening deadline to reach a final deal. Kerry and President Obama are keen to see the deal finalized as a major credit to the administration's foreign policy credentials, but as CBS News Correspondent Margaret Brennan reports, no one has a more personal stake in the negotiations than the four Americans currently imprisoned or missing in Iran.
Greek abyss
The economy in Greece has begun its descent into the fiscal abyss as the government of Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras initiated capital controls on yesterday. Economists say that will cause serious problems even if a last-minute deal is reached to prevent the cash-strapped country from defaulting on its international debt obligations.
Women's World Cup
The U.S. Women's soccer team is in a rare position for tonight's match -- an underdog at the World Cup semi-finals. The U.S. plays Germany, the world's top-ranked team. The two countries have played each other 29 times, and Germany has won only four of them. Jericka Duncan reports from Olympic Stadium in Montreal.
