Team USA

American women's soccer is Number 1 in the world. Team USA left no doubt, lifting the World Cup Sunday night in Vancouver, Canada. They overwhelmed Japan to win the final game 5-2. It's a record third World Cup title for the Americans, and their first since 1999. CBS News Correspondent Jericka Duncan reports fans rushed out to bars and viewing screens across the country to cheer on the team.

New Greek reality

European stock markets trimmed earlier losses today after a key Greek minister resigned. Earlier, Asian markets had dropped, for the most part. Economists said the markets were not expecting such a decisive "no" vote. CBS News Correspondent Holly Williams reports the margin of victory for "no" was far wider than expected, and Greece entered a second week of severe restrictions on financial transactions with no prospect of an immediate infusion.

Grexit?

The immediate question: How will the European Union, which under the stewardship of German Chancellor Angela Merkel has insisted on austerity for Greece, respond now? A "Grexit," as it is called, would make Greece the first state to leave the 19-member currency union since the euro was formally created in 1999.

2016 campaign trail

It was a working July Fourth weekend for the pack of presidential candidates. The hopefuls spent time on the campaign trail, shaking hands and making speeches in the key states of Iowa and New Hampshire. CBS News Correspondent Julianna Goldman reports on their tactics to attract voters.

Santorum praises Trump

Former Pennsylvania senator and presidential candidate Rick Santorum said he didn't like Donald Trump's "verbiage" when he called Mexican immigrants "rapists" in his presidential announcement speech, but on CBS News "Face the Nation," he added that Trump was raising an important point by bringing up the effect that illegal immigration has on American workers.

FBI's facial recognition

For 19 years, Lynn Cozart eluded authorities after being convicted of sexually assaulting his three children. So in a desperate bid to track down the Pennsylvania native, an FBI agent submitted Cozart's mug shot to the agency's newly created Next Generation Identification (NGI) system, which, among other things, uses facial recognition software to identify suspects.

Pluto probe

Recovering from a subtle timing glitch that knocked NASA's Pluto-bound New Horizons probe out of contact with Earth on Saturday, engineers believe the spacecraft should be able to resume normal operations Tuesday -- one week before the long-awaited flyby -- with no major impact on the mission's science objectives, NASA reported late yesterday.

Pope's visit

Jubilant crowds greeted Pope Francis as he arrived yesterday in Ecuador, kicking off a nine-day trip that will also take him to Bolivia and Paraguay. The Vatican says the theme of this journey to Latin America -- the pope's second since his election -- is reconciliation and renewal, but the return to his native continent will undoubtedly also hold special meaning for Francis, the first Latin American pope.

Beautiful, funny women

Hollywood titan and former Disney CEO Michael Eisner's comments about women are drawing criticism. CBS News Correspondent Michelle Miller reports the man who ran two major movie studios said in a conversation with Goldie Hawn that it's not easy to find actresses who are both funny and beautiful.
