After 26,000-square miles searched, Fla. teens still missing
MIAMI - The U.S. Coast Guard has searched more that 26,000 nautical square miles in their efforts to find two 14-year boys who went missing during a fishing trip over the weekend off Jupiter.
Perry Cohen and Austin Stephanos were last seen Friday in the Jupiter area buying fuel for their 19-foot boat, reports CBS Miami.
On Sunday, their boat was found capsized with one life vest on board off Daytona Beach.
On Monday, a naval vessel joined the search which had shifted north.
"That's where our flow models have shown that the most likelihood of them being, so that's currently where we are focusing our search efforts, about 60 to 70 miles off Jacksonsville," said Petty Officer Steve Lehman.
On Monday, Cohen's mother Pamela posted this on Twitter.
NFL Hall of Famer Joe Namath, who is Cohen's neighbor and has know the boys for the last 10 years, said both are experienced boaters.
Namath said, "We've got to believe in their wherewithal."
While the Coast Guard and Navy search the ocean, family and friends of the missing teens are combing the beach and have asked for help to do the same all the way up the coast. They're hoping to find some sign of Austin and Perry.
The families of the teens are also offering $100,000 reward in the search.
With the reward on the table, boaters are expected to flock to the region to help.
The Coast Guard said they are not accepting volunteers at this time because of the large number of ships and aircraft involved in the search.
