N.C. introduces scratch and sniff BBQ lottery tickets

RALEIGH, N.C. -- What does money smell like? Barbecue maybe.

The N.C. Education Lottery has introduced a new lottery ticket and it smells like smoky barbecue. The smell was introduced on Tuesday in Raleigh and Charlotte.

Lottery officials launched the BBQ Bucks scratch-off game at barbecue restaurants in the respective cities.

"About a year or so ago, some other lotteries came out with a ticket that smelled like bacon," said Van Denton, communications director for the lottery to CBS affiliate WBTV. "So we were sitting around thinking, what would our ticket smell like? And the obvious answer was barbecue."

CBS affiliate WGCL reports that the ticket sells for $2 and carry a top prize of $25,000. There is also a second chance drawing for 1,000 pounds of BBQ.

Queen City Q hosted the Charlotte event. In Raleigh, the game unveiling was at Clyde Cooper's Barbecue.
