Peyton Manning talks Super Bowl 50 victory
Super Bowl 50 was a record-setting event for Peyton Manning. He is now the oldest starting quarterback ever to win a Super Bowl, the first quarterback to win 200 games in his career and the first in history to lead two different teams to victory in the Super Bowl.
But, according to the veteran quarterback, he didn't feel the pressure to prove himself on the field Sunday night against the Carolina Panthers.
"I was truly honored to be a part of that game, to be playing the 50th Super Bowl," Manning said Monday on "CBS This Morning." "Obviously I've been a huge football fan growing up, and have watched a ton of Super Bowls, and walking out on that field for the pre-game warmups - it was about as beautiful of setting you could possibly imagine. And to be playing in it, I felt so honored and grateful."
Manning spoke highly of his teammates, but in regards to the defense that helped the Broncos nail down Super Bowl victory, he said he's been thanking them all year long.
"We've had a bunch of tough, unselfish, resilient guys, but our defense has led the way, and I've just been very grateful to be part of the journey with those guys," Manning said.
Linebacker DeMarcus Ware said he felt his team was destined for the Super Bowl win in the locker room before the game.
"Because all the guys, you can see the fire and that tiger look in their eyes and how we felt. And before we even stepped out there on the field, we felt like it was for us to take, and that's what we went out there and did," Ware said on "CBS This Morning."
While Ware described Cam Newton as a "phenomenal player," he expressed his disapproval for the way the Panthers' young and flashy quarterback left the media presser after his Super Bowl loss.
"He's one of one. Cam's gonna be Cam. But the thing is with this type of profession and this type of game, there's a way that you do things," Ware said. "Sometimes, you know, you lose, you have to do press. Sometimes you win, you have to do press. You have to take your wins with your losses."
Meanwhile, Manning is still keeping the media at bay with questions about his retirement.
"I tell ya, I really haven't spoken with anybody about it yet," Manning said. "I'll certainly talk about it with Ashley, and I'll pray about it to the big man upstairs, but right now, I'm still running on a lot of adrenaline. I'm not going to sleep tonight. I've been celebrating all night with family and friends, but I'm very much at peace ... with kind of however that decision's gonna go down and when it'll it go down."
