Boston trolleys collide; 7 hurt

DORCHESTER, Mass. -- Two MBTA trolleys collided in Boston early Wednesday morning, leaving seven people hurt.

T spokesman Joe Pesaturo told CBS station WBZ-TV an out-of-service train with no passengers made contact with another trolley.

It happened on the Mattapan Line near the Butler Street station as one trolley was heading toward Ashmont shortly after 6:30 a.m.

Pesaturo said seven people - five passengers and two trolley operators - reported "back discomfort."

Passengers told WBZ's Chris McKinnon they felt a jolt and everyone fell forward.

They were evacuated from the trolley, some holding ice packs, as they walked from the collision site to Cedar Grove station.

One passenger said several people had "busted lips" after the crash.

Shuttle buses are replacing train service from Ashmont to Mattapan.

No other information is available at this point in the investigation.
