Cops: Fla. man fatally shot on last night before retiring

BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. -- Police say robbers fatally shot a 79-year-old Florida man who was working his last night at a liquor store before retiring.

Boynton Beach police spokeswoman Stephanie Slater says Ali Arezoumandifar of Jupiter had recently sold the Liquor Market and had been helping the new owner learn the business. Sunday night was supposed to be his last night at the store.

Slater says a customer called police around 8:10 p.m. after finding Arezoumandifar on the floor. The cash register was open and empty. He was declared dead at the scene.

Police say there was no surveillance video at the store. Detectives have been combing the area to see if they can find video from nearby stores.

According to CBS affiliate WPEC, authorities said that the location had been robbed last month, with a man in a black mask stealing a tray of scratch-off lottery tickets. Police reportedly identified a man and a woman in a similar robbery at a 7-11 store.

However, police did not have any evidence to lead to charges in the Oct. 27 liquor store robbery. Even as investigators say there is nothing linking the victim's death to the couple, police will be interviewing the two, according to the station.

Slater says Arezoumandifar's family has asked for privacy.

If anyone has any information, please call Crime Stoppers at 800-458-TIPS.
