Woman shot dead in Dallas parking garage ID'd as dentist

DALLAS -- Police have identified the woman who died after being shot in the parking garage of an upscale Dallas high-rise as dentist Kendra Hatcher, reports CBS DFW.

Hatcher, 35, had reportedly just driven into the parking garage of the apartment building where she lived in the Dallas' Uptown neighborhood around 7:45 p.m. Wednesday night when she was approached by someone getting out of a Jeep. That's when she was shot dead, police say.

After witnesses heard what they thought was a gunshot, the person got back in the Jeep and drove it out of the garage, reports CBS DFW.

When officers arrived they reportedly found Hatcher dead next to her car.

Police say whoever got out of the Jeep likely accessed the gated parking garage by following another vehicle inside. Authorities are describing the truck as a "vehicle of interest," and have released a vehicle description and surveillance images. Police say the Jeep is a boxy, older model Cherokee with damaged or faded paint on the hood and a paper license plate tag.

According to the station, police wouldn't say whether they believed the person or persons in the Jeep shot and killed Hatcher, but said anyone inside the vehicle would likely have information about the killing.

Police say they haven't identified a motive and they're hoping the public will come forward with information about the truck that could lead them to more evidence.

Anyone who recognizes the Jeep Cherokee or has information about the shooting is urged to contact the Dallas Police Department Homicide Unit at 214-283-4818.
